Building a human-centric talent and performance management strategy
Maersk needed the entire workforce to support and understand their strategy—and for its people to develop new and different capabilities in areas such as supply chain management and technology. This meant the business had to become more human-centric than it had ever been. After all, its people who execute the strategy—and lasting growth can’t be achieved without meeting their needs.
Maersk crafted a blueprint to enhance performance through a stronger feedback culture, fostered through ongoing, connected conversations in four areas: team, performance, career and talent. The key to this was the creation of dynamic review processes, a refreshed focus on assessing contribution and growth needs and strategic talent planning linked to business needs. This served to elevate conversations beyond box ticking to drive meaningful growth-oriented and business-focused impact.
Creating impact across the organization
Overall it has been a very successful start for Maersk. While currently in the early stages of implementation, the executive leadership team understands that the new performance and talent management approach plays a critical role in the business transformation.
This is one of the largest HR transformations at Maersk to date, receiving extremely high interest and engagement compared to other global launches at Maersk. This has been evidenced by post-launch employee surveys confirming employees are having effective conversations linked to the transformation strategy, internal intranet site views, and by many employees sharing enthusiastic reviews. The success is the result of a movement backed by 110,000 engaged employees and 10,000 empowered people leaders, all driving towards a new way of working.
