Skip to main contentLOS ANGELES, Aug. 12, 2021 – As the global pandemic shifts the paradigm on professionals’ thoughts regarding quitting their jobs, a new Korn Ferry survey sheds light on why they may feel the need to hand in that pink slip.
The largest percentage of professionals (36 percent) say they are planning on taking a new job in the near future because the pandemic allowed them to re-evaluate what they want and make the change they need.
“The last 18 months have given us all a lot of time for introspection, and many professionals realize that the day-to-day grind of their jobs just isn’t worth it, and it’s time to pursue work options that are more fulfilling and provide purpose,” said Korn Ferry Workforce Transformation Practice Leader Elise Freedman.
Nearly a third (31 percent) of respondents say they would quit their job without another one lined up, and nearly half (45 percent) say they are more likely now than pre-pandemic to leave a role without another job secured.
“For some people, leaving a job has more to do with leaving a particular company because of burnout or even boredom, but for others, an entire career change may be what they are looking for,” said Freedman. “Many people are taking the time to really do a self-analysis on what they’re good at and what motivates them. Time between jobs may be necessary to ensure they are pursuing the right path.”
The survey shows that leaving an unsatisfying job may be the best option for many. Eighty-five percent of respondents say they have never regretted a decision to quit.
