Fred Neis is a member of the healthcare practice based in Korn Ferry’s Chicago, IL office.
Fred is an executive and enthusiast for healthcare change. Approaching three decades of experience in health system operations and payers, he has exposure to nearly the entire suite of functions. He leads efforts to assess, design, and implement holistic workforce solutions. Fred designed and implemented one of the industry’s first pay-for-performance models for nurses and essential staff.
Before joining the firm, he has held leadership positions within health systems, AMCs, and children’s hospitals. Within the broader healthcare landscape, Fred has been a leader at a payer, consulting firm, and technology company.
Additionally, Fred is active at local and national levels helping shape leadership performance, policy, and clinical practice. Among his numerous publications it includes the National Academy of Medicine (formerly IOM) on the future of emergency care in the U.S., a leadership book on management and health system operations, and a nurse manager survival guide. In 2022 he was the section editor on patient/consumer advocacy for a healthcare leadership book. Within policy and clinical practice, Fred has been an advisor to CMS on provider attribution in risk-based contracting, the national EMS-C program, and CMMI’s innovation grant reviews. He is a journal peer reviewer, serves on several boards, and can be found speaking to industry leaders at conferences.
Fred holds a MS in Nursing Administration and a BSN from the University of Kansas. He is a Fellow with both the American College of Healthcare Executives and Academy of Emergency Nursing.
With a desire to serve, he volunteers actively for several professional and philanthropic organizations. Fred has led medical missions to rural Kenya, staffing a primary care clinic.
